What is FII and DII data?

FII (Foreign Institutional Investors) are overseas funds — hedge funds, pension funds, sovereign wealth funds — that trade Indian equities and derivatives. DII (Domestic Institutional Investors) are Indian entities like mutual funds, insurance companies and banks. Their net daily buying or selling is one of the most reliable signals of institutional sentiment in the market.

How to use this data

  • FII net buying: Consistent foreign inflows signal confidence in Indian markets — typically bullish for Nifty and Bank Nifty.
  • DII buying vs FII selling: DIIs often step in when FIIs sell, absorbing supply. Watching this divergence helps gauge whether a dip has support.
  • Both buying together: Strong combined inflows are a high-conviction bullish signal and often precede sustained rallies.
  • F&O vs cash segment: FII derivative positions can differ from their cash positions — large F&O shorts alongside cash buying often indicates hedging, not directional bearishness.

When is this data updated?

NSE and BSE publish provisional FII/DII data by 6-7 PM IST on trading days. Final figures are available the next morning. This tracker pulls the latest available data so you always have current institutional flow numbers.
